Since Hua Language Institute was established over twenty years ago,
our primary goal has been to provide excellent training in English to
every student who passes through our doors. Over the years, our efforts
have paid off, as the testimony of students and parents will show. However,
not content to remain merely within the arena of language teaching,
Mr Hua’s aim is to see Hua Language Institute become a professional
research center whose services and products can benefit all who are
engaged in English language teaching and learning. Moreover, we seek
to be our students’ role models not only in terms of English, but also
in setting the standards for sincerity, kindness, generosity and creativity.
This is a process that requires a close partnership between the school,
students and parents. Only by working together to resolve problems can
we give our children the best. Therefore, your opinions matter to us,
whether in the form of constructive criticism or encouragement.

Our Method
- What are the main differences
between KEEP and other preparatory stage classes?
Essentially the aims of both courses are the same: to install the
sounds of English into students’ speech organs and to teach them the
skills they need to learn to read. However KEEP classes are especially
designed for younger learners. The course is longer in duration, so
students have more time to learn and absorb the language in a way
that more closely mirrors that of young native speakers. As younger
learners have a shorter attention span, there is less emphasis on
explicit teaching of structures and rules. However, the necessary
basics, including the ability to read phonetic symbols and an understanding
of phonics, basic spelling rules and simple sentence patterns are
presented to students in a fun and interactive way, along with other
content area topics that appeal to younger learners’ sense of curiosity.

- At Hua, students’ homework
consists of writing, recitation and quiz preparation. How effective
is this combination?
The writing exercises not only help students develop neat and accurate
handwriting, but also expose students to a wide range of vocabulary
and sentence structures. The recitation assignment is usually related
to the language taught in the previous lesson and encourages students
to practice speaking in order that they might exercise their speech
muscles and develop greater fluency.
Weekly quizzes and mid-term / final exams are designed to give teachers
a clear understanding of each student’s progress, enabling them to
correct or help students as required. We are convinced that these
methods allow us to help students build a firm foundation in English.

Our Teachers
- Are your teachers native speakers?
We hire both native speakers and local teachers. After undergoing
a rigorous selection process and receiving comprehensive pre-job training
in articulation, diction and teaching methods, all teachers continue
to receive on-going training and mentoring, thus ensuring consistent,
high quality teaching.

- How often do classes change
teachers?
As our teaching is organized into different stages and levels,
teachers are usually assigned to a class for the duration of a particular
level.

- Is it possible to request
a particular teacher?
After a teacher has passed the pre-job training program, he/she
will continue to receive on-the-job training and to attend weekly
workshops. Therefore, parents can rest assured that all of our teachers
are fully equipped to teach the classes that they are assigned.

Sutdent Placement
- What if my child falls behind
the rest of the class?
If you have any concerns in this area, please address them directly
to the teacher and school director, who will discuss with you the
possibility of transferring your child to a more suitable class.

- Why do students have to repeat
the course if they do badly in the final exam?
At Hua, we are committed to helping our students build a firm foundation
in English so that they do not give up when they encounter difficulties
later on. If a student does not pass a final exam but continues
on to the next level, we feel that he/she will struggle and feel
increasingly discouraged, eventually losing interest in learning
English.

Other Questions
- Why should parents accompany
their children to class?
There are two reasons why Hua Language Institute encourages parents
to sit in on classes:
- Parents are able to see first hand what is taught and the way
their children interact with the teacher in the classroom. Parents
are also well equipped to help their children at home, and can take
this opportunity to spend more time with them.
- Parents who accompany their children to class can also ensure
that they travel safely to and from class.

- Are there classes for junior
high school students?
Hua accepts students from grade 3 kindergarten to junior high school
age. For regular classes, students are placed according to their level
of English rather than according to age. After taking a placement
test, students are placed accordingly.
In addition, Hua also runs intensive English programs during the
summer vacation. These classes are aimed at students in grade five
elementary school and above and are particularly helpful for students
who are about to begin junior high school.

- What do I do if I need to
contact my child when he/she is in class?
In order to avoid unnecessary disruption, we would ask parents
not to interrupt a class except in cases of emergency. Any other
messages should be conveyed via the school secretary.
