Quality Teacher Teaching
Quality Teaching
Our teachers understand what it means to be on both sides of the
classroom. They are at the same time, teachers in the classroom and students
while in training. Teachers are never thrown into the deep end of the
pool, expected to swim or sink. From the beginning teachers undergo an
intensive period of training, so they are fully prepared and confident
when they first enter a classroom.
We also believe that learning never stops. Our teachers are constantly improving
their skills and expanding their knowledge. Even teachers who have been
with us for many years are involved in regular group discussions and workshops,
where they share their problems and experiences. Playing the roles of student
and teacher, our educators are fully aware of the concerns and needs of
both parties and know how to attend to the complex relationship of instructor
and pupil.
Teacher Training
Sound Installation
It
is important that young students correct articulation problems from the
very beginning. Therefore, we meticulously drill students on their articulation
at the beginning of their study. We are trying to ‘install' the ‘sounds'
of English into their mouths. Some English sounds come very easily to
Chinese children, and not much time needs to be spent on these, but some
sounds (for example the short ‘i' in ‘bit' or the ‘th' sound) are more
difficult and need thorough instruction. Careful instruction as to tongue
position and the use of other speech organs (which is illustrated in our
vowel-triangle diagram and our Vocal Articulation Installation (VAI) multimedia
teaching materials) can be helpful to young students in pronouncing more
problematic sounds. This technique combined with repeated Sound Exposure
and drills can help students take the right first step in their English
articulation.
Teacher Training
It is imperative that teachers are well trained and that they continue
to adapt to their students' needs and strive for advancement of education
techniques. Teachers undergo specific instruction in our unique teaching
method, and then sit in on classes to learn how to apply these teaching
techniques. Once a teacher takes on his or her own class, he or she still
must partake in a branch school meeting with other teachers twice a week
to review teaching strategies and sometimes learn new methods. In addition,
once every three weeks teachers will be asked to come to the main office
to report and share new developments in their English education.
Parents
as Partners
Since
parents often want to become involved in their child's education, we invite
parents to sit in on classes and encourage them to be familiar with our
curriculum. Teachers and parents should work together to make students'
learning fun and effective.
