主題式敘述能力的培養

花老師要求老師們每堂課都要每個小朋友上台做一段主題式敘述，就連第一堂 ABC 課都不例外。花老師在開班演講時，就訓練小朋友會做簡單的自我介紹，因為第一堂課最重要的，就是大家能彼此認識。他以四個問題為主軸，不斷用英語與小朋友們互動。What is your name? How old are you? What are you? What do you do? 最後小朋友們要能站在台前說出 My name is _____. I am ___ years old. I am a student. I study English. 其間花老師也穿插示範 I am Grandpa Hua. I am 76 years old. I am a teacher. I teach English. 在這過程中他還解釋 grandpa 的含意並叫小朋友猜他幾歲. No, I am younger than 80. I am older than 70. 所以小朋友在課堂中，不僅是學一些發音、音字轉換、拼字、字構、片語、語意組、造句、及流利度等語言技巧，他們從第一堂課起就已在實際運用所學的語言，這就是花老師平衡式教學法的真義：聲音教學 + 結構教學 = 應用教學。小朋友學習聲音、結構等語言技巧，是為了更流暢地使用語言；而在實際運用語言的同時，小朋友的語言技巧也更臻純熟。

這種主題式敘述能力的培養，不僅能讓小朋友用目標語談論自己，建立自信，更能訓練學生邏輯組織的能力，對小朋友學習語言的終極目標－－演說及論述－－有甚大助益。

這些主題可以涵蓋所有的個人認知、經驗、家庭、學校、社會、世界、天文地理、古今中外。以下兩篇給 BLT 4 階段學生的範例供大家參考，歡迎大家踴躍分享這方面的經驗。

When I have leisure time, I like watching news and movies on TV, cooking, and playing the piano.

Among these hobbies, playing the piano is my favorite.

I have been playing the piano for more than 30 years.

Playing the piano makes me feel peaceful and joyful.

My favorite composers are Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Debussy and Bartok.

Bach's music is baroque and profound and I have learned to listen to his embellished melodies in different voices.

Mozart's music is so classical and heavenly that every time I hear it, I feel as if I were in heaven.

Chopin's music is so romantic and beautiful that it can make me cry.

Debussy's music is so impressionistic that I can almost see the pictures he painted with music.

30% of the world is covered by land.

70% of the world is covered by water.

There are 7 continents in the world.

They are North America, South American, Asia, Europe, Africa, Antarctica and Oceania.

There are 3 oceans in the world.

They are the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean.

I have been to 6 countries.

They are America, Canada, Japan, Spain, Egypt and Australia.

America and Canada are two countries in North America .

Japan is a country in Asia .

Spain is a country in Europe .

Egypt is a country in Africa .

Australia is a country in Oceania .

Among the countries that I have been to, Spain impressed me the most because the Flamingo Dance I saw there was so beautiful that it took my breath away.

One day I am going to travel to Norway and New Zealand because they are the only two countries in the world where I can see the most beautiful geographical feature, fiords.

I have seen one ocean.

I saw the Pacific Ocean in Hua-Lien and California in America .

It is the biggest ocean in the world .

It is between Asia and America .

One day I am going to travel to Cape Town, South Africa .
